About our campaign.

Our campaign is dedicated to securing a much-needed indoor space at St Kilda Primary School for physical education, assemblies, and community events.
Since the old hall was demolished in 2020, our students and the broader community have been left without this essential facility.
The Need for an Indoor Hall
St Kilda Primary School is one of the largest in the area without an indoor facility. With 52% of our 2024 enrolments and approximately 80% of St Kilda and Balaclava residents living in apartments or townhouses, access to recreational space is severely limited.
The local area has just 8 public open spaces, covering only 5% of the land – far below the municipal average of 17%. These outdoor areas are unusable in bad weather, leaving our children without a place to be active year-round.
Our vision is to create a multi-purpose hall that enhances our children's education and provides a central venue for local residents of all ages and abilities.
“Without an indoor space, it’s a struggle to provide consistent PE lessons, especially during bad weather. This means students often miss out on vital physical activity, which is essential for their health and development. An indoor facility would make a world of difference.”

A Broken Promise
In 2020, the State Government demolished our old hall during capital works but failed to provide a replacement. According to the State Government’s Facilities Area Schedules, our school is entitled to a gym based on our enrolment numbers. Nearby schools have similar facilities – why not SKPS?
A Vital Community Resource
An indoor hall will not only meet the educational needs of our students but also serve the broader community, providing a space that could help revitalise the area around Carlisle and Chapel Streets.
Our Approach to Funding
Funding for the indoor sport and community hall is allocated directly by the state government, not through an application process. State MPs can unlock these crucial funds.
With strong community support and strategic advocacy, we can secure a space where everyone can thrive. We already have community and sporting partners interested in using the facility, ensuring its financial sustainability.
Join us in this effort to ensure our students and the broader community have access to a safe, all-weather indoor hall.
